# Barcode Generator — Free (Code 128, EAN, UPC)

Create barcodes in Code 128, EAN, UPC, Code 39 and more. Download PNG or SVG. 100% in your browser — free, no sign-up.

## What is a barcode?

A barcode encodes text or numbers as a pattern of bars that a scanner reads. Unlike a QR code (2D), these are classic 1D barcodes used on products, labels, inventory, and shipping. Different symbologies suit different data — pick the one your scanner or system expects.

## How it works here

Enter your data, choose a format, and the barcode renders instantly in your browser — nothing is uploaded. Download it as a PNG for screens or an SVG for print, which stays crisp at any size.

## Which format to choose

Code 128 is the most flexible (any letters and numbers) — a good default. EAN-13 and UPC-A are for retail products and need a specific number of digits. Code 39 is common in industry and logistics. If a format shows an error, your data does not match its rules (for example, EAN-13 needs 12–13 digits).

## Barcode vs QR code

A 1D barcode stores a short id (like a product number) and is read by laser scanners at checkout and in warehouses. A QR code stores much more (URLs, WiFi, contacts) and is read by phone cameras. Use a barcode for product/inventory ids, a QR code for links and rich data.

## How to

1. Enter the data to encode.
2. Choose a barcode format (Code 128 works for most).
3. Download as PNG or SVG.

## FAQ

**Which barcode format should I use?**

Code 128 is the flexible default (any letters/numbers). Use EAN-13/UPC for retail products, Code 39 for industry/logistics.

**Why does my barcode show an error?**

Your data does not match the format's rules — e.g. EAN-13 needs 12–13 digits, UPC-A needs 11–12 digits. Switch format or fix the data.

**PNG or SVG?**

PNG for screens; SVG for print, since it stays sharp at any size. Both download free with no watermark.

**What's the difference from a QR code?**

A 1D barcode stores a short id read by laser scanners; a QR code (2D) stores URLs/contacts read by phone cameras. Use barcodes for product/inventory ids.

**Is it free?**

Yes, completely free — no sign-up and no watermark.

**Is my data private?**

Yes — this tool runs entirely in your browser. Your files and text are never uploaded.
